Update in Bohol: Soldier dead in clash with alleged Abu Sayyaf

At least one soldier is dead and another is wounded as government forces engaged suspected Abu Sayyaf members in Inabanga, Bohol on Tuesday.

Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa confirmed the death of a soldier after police and military launched an operation against armed men in the province.

The group came to the Visayas on three pump boats, according to reports.

Gen. Eduardo Año, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff , said in a report on ANC that Air Force, Navy personnel are already in the area to help.

He added that the armed group has already been cornered. The firefight is ongoing as of this post.

The United States Embassy on Sunday and the Australian Embassy on Monday warned their citizens of a possible kidnapping threat in Central Visayas, where Bohol is located. Both embassies cited credible but unverified information that terrorist groups would attempt kidnappings in the region, which is a popular destination for tourists.

This is a developing story
